After stumbling into a 1940s boxing gym in the depths of Brooklyn I found myself completely captivated by the visuals and aesthetics of boxing and the circus of aggression. I am a touch tickled by how often presented as a hyper-masculine sport, and also delicately brushes against the realm of homoeroticism. In this exhibition, I attempt to toy with the notion of aggression, uncovering how its outward displays of posturing and anguish, when stripped away, reveal the purest manifestations of tenderness and longing.
Through a feminine and queer lens, I am beginning to unravel the layers of aggressions traditional narrative. By doing so, I hope to challenge the preconceived notions surrounding gender and sexuality that have historically permeated this arena. Through this work, I am attempting to celebrate the creation of the release of aggression and question and search for the tenderness and sadness that might reside beneath the surface.
By subverting expectations and highlighting the interplay between strength and vulnerability, I hope to foster a deeper understanding of human emotion's multifaceted nature and identity's fluidity.
